Kalabaka, 6 October 2026. Terra Immersia is in the centre of Kalabaka, a few minutes from Meteora. It is an exhibition space that one could call a Timeless Museum of Meteora.

It offers a range of activities for adults and children, in a complete presentation of Meteora along four themes: History, Art, Science, and the Activities a visitor can enjoy in the area.

The first room

In the first room, the stories unfold around a relief model of the area, next to a reconstruction of the net the monks once used to reach the top of the rocks, and an interactive touch screen with games for everyone.

The 360° room

The second room hosts the immersive experience. The projection covers all four walls and the floor, and the image responds to the visitor’s movement. No glasses, no phone app. Image and sound move around the room.

The floor and walls respond to touch, while a narration of the story of the land, from the time a sea covered the Thessalian plain to the present day, plays alongside the projection. The visit ends with an interactive quiz on the walls of the room, where visitors choose the right answer by interacting with the projection. The whole visit takes about forty-five minutes.

The creators

Terra Immersia was created by two people from Thessaly: Thodoris Rantos (Interactive Light Designs, Larissa) and Thomas Tsoukalas (Archer Cultural Projects), architect and museologist. The electronic systems that run the space were not bought off the shelf. They were designed, programmed and installed for this space by the Terra Immersia team, and there is nothing like them in Greece.

Who it is for

The museum welcomes visitors to Meteora and the wider area, families and school groups. The space is wheelchair accessible, and will soon offer special controllers so that disabled visitors can take part in the interaction, as well as all written content in easy-to-read format.

The immersive photo exhibition “Chernobyl – The Exclusion Zone” by Vasilis Tsiolis is also on show at the moment.
